Day 33 – God makes sure each one of His people who need to be held accountable are accounted for.
Todays Reading: Leviticus 27:1 – Numbers 2:34
Numbers 1:2-3 “Take a census of all the congregation of the people of Israel, by clans, by fathers’ houses, according to the number of names, every male, head by head. From twenty years old and upward, all in Israel who are able to go to war, you and Aaron shall list them, company by company.”
Now that all the rules and regulations have been delivered to Moses and laid out for the Israelites, God now wants to make sure that all those who should be obedient were held accountable. He makes the point that the ones to be the example are those that are 20 years or older, male, and able to serve in the military.
God wasn’t just counting His people to see how grand they were or because He didn’t already know how many they were, but because He wanted each of them to know that they were to be held accountable for taking care of the rest of the people.
These that were numbered were to be fully obedient to Him. We may not be numbered anymore, but He still numbers us in the Heavens and knows our name. We are to be fully accountable to Him.
