Day 360 – 365 Days through the Word

Day 360 – When we look to God we find the good.

“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” Gen.50.20

Every Christmas Eve for the past 7 years, my family has had the tradition of going to breakfast and sharing memories of our youngest son who we lost almost 8 years ago. It’s our way of keeping him as a part of our Christmas festivities.

Usually, we remember the funny things he did, the way he made a duck face or backed in to sit on our lap, the way he took up for his friends or did one handed push ups, but this year, when it came time for our oldest son to share a story, he said something that we all felt deeply. Hunter shared that his faith has grown tremendously because of Hayden. Not because of what he did or the way he was, but when Hayden passed away Hunter became very angry. We kept pointing him to God during this time, and one day it all just clicked and his anger passed away and his dependence and trust in God grew even deeper. It was in something that none of us thought was good that God made good come.

That’s what God does, He brings good from the things that are meant to harm us. The thing is, we may not see it if we aren’t looking to Him. We have to look to God in the hard, bad, no good times to see the good that He has promised us.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.

The next time you have a hard time seeing the good in your bad situation, look to God and you will see the good.
