Day 314 – Even our youth should strive to reflect Christ.
Today’s Reading: 1 Timothy 3 – 5
1 Timothy 4:12 “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”
‘They’re still a child.’ I’ve said it, they’ve said it, you’ve probably said it at one time or another. This is the main excuse we use when a youth acts in a way that is not Christ-like.
Oh my heavens, in my youth I was just like many other youth, doing and saying things that would make no one believe I was a Christian. In fact, when I did grow in my walk as an adult, many people that knew me as a youth questioned my faith as an adult. I wish I could go back and change many of my words and actions from my youth, but I can’t. However, it is now my responsibility to hold youth to the same standard I should have strived for when I was their age, and that standard is Christ.
Uplifting words, truth and hope should be spoken, upright conduct should be shown, Love and Faith should be freely shared, and Purity upheld to the Nth degree. Yes, youth are still growing and learning and Grace should be shown by adult believers like myself, but we need to stop making excuses for their words, actions, and deeds because they are our future and they will be paving the way for future generations to know Christ. And when we hold them to the standard of Christ they will naturally be an example of Christ to all those around them (including us).
