Day 256 – Learn to enjoy the small things.
Today’s Reading: Zechariah 3 – 5
Zechariah 4:10 “Who dares despise the day of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone in the hand of Zerubbabel?”
Do you ever get tired of seeking more, being restless for greater days, and always seeking bigger and better things?! It’s exhausting!
Years ago, when the small things were all we had left, a huge growth happened in our family unit. It was the small things that brought us into a deeper connection, fuller love, and more intimate relationship with the Lord. In the moments when you’re putting your children to bed and they want to be anywhere but there and they lay on the ground to share love with the cat, it’s the small things. It’s in the small things that beauty and peace will grow brightest. It’s in a small baby that life is brought into the world, and in a small room in a small house that warmth and laughter is caught deepening the love of a couple. It’s in a small car that you may make your greatest memories and have your deepest conversations. And in a small mustard seed of Faith that you can move a mountain. This is why we rejoice in the “Small Things”. It’s where hope is found. So why do so many people sweat it? Because they try to make the small stuff BIG instead of choosing to cherish it for being small.
Next time you find yourself wanting something Bigger and better or wondering when you’re going to get your chance at the next greatest thing, look around and Thank God for the small things because all things are from Him.
