Day 170 – 365 Days through the Word

Day 170 – Make sure all your decisions were His decision first.

Today’s Reading: Psalm 125 – 129

Psalm 127:1 “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”

There’s just a little bit of me that envy’s a child. As a child your parents made all the decisions for you. If it was a wrong decision, for the most part you never knew about it. But when you become an adult there are so many decisions to make and so many different directions to take. And unless we make the “right” choice, everything we do is essentially worthless.

The Right decision isn’t always the easiest, clearest, or fastest decision out there. The world gives us so many options that they all start to look great.

For years after we were first married, Brett and I never felt settled. I felt called to ministry and Brett wasn’t sure where God wanted him. And when you aren’t in God’s Will, the plan you’ve been working on will never work. After a hard path yet the right path, we’ve landed where God wants us. It took both of us in a place of surrendered faith. We didn’t want to jump into the next job that was out there, we were tired of just making money for the purpose of having money, we wanted to do exactly what God wanted us to do.

We spent hours, days, and months in constant prayer, seeking counsel and wisdom, doing odd end jobs to keep food on the table, fasting to keep our minds fresh for God’s Word, and trusting that God would reveal to us the right decision. And now 11 years later our labor is no longer in vain. We are building His kingdom, one day at a time, one life at a time. We make every decision according to what He has for us, it make take a long time for us to see His plan revealed, but it’s better than our plan being torn away.
