Day 150 – In the darkest hour, in the deepest dreams, I spread my arms and fly with wings.
Today’s Reading: Psalm 55 – 59
Psalm 55:5-8 “Fear and trembling have beset me;horror has overwhelmed me. I said, “Oh, that I had the wings of a dove!I would fly away and be at rest. I would flee far awayand stay in the desert; I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.”
One of my favorite movies of all times is “Forrest Gump”. Forrest’s best friend, Jenny, had a hard life. Her father would beat her daily, and one day as she was running from the beating through the high cover crop in the fields she prayed, “Dear God, make me a bird so I can fly far. Far Far away from here.” Jenny was in darkness, the only way she thought she’d be able to get any rest was to fly away.
Do you ever feel like this? Like there’s nothing else we can do, we just want to gain wings like a bird and fly away.
Ever since I was a young child I’ve always loved the thought of flying away. Even as I would dream at night in the most horrifying dreams before anyone could get me I would spread out my arms and fly away to safety. Not only would God protect me on earth with this feeling of flight but He would also do it in my dreams. The only problem is sometimes when I’m wanting to fly away from my problems because I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel or I’m feeling suffocated, I need to just wait on Him to deliver me.
Thankfully God has blessed me with a man that can keep me grounded in these moments. He reminds me that constantly running will tire me out. When we allow God to guide us we will know when to fly and when to pray in the cover crop.
Psalm 56:13 “For you have delivered me from death and my feet from stumbling, that I may walk before God in the light of life.”
We can be like a beautiful butterfly, and in our moments of darkness we grow great strength in our wings. Once we burst through the darkness we can choose to fly or choose to rest on the flowers, and even better we can fly away always knowing how to get home.
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like Eagles;” Isaiah 40:31a.
Let your wings Glorify God, not fly from His blessings.
