Day 144 – When the Lord finds us being faithful to Him, He will look into our heart and give us our deepest desires.
Today’s Reading: Psalm 35 – 37
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4.
Two questions you’ve probably never contemplated in the same thought: Where am I at in my walk with Christ, and What is my greatest Desire?
Have you ever noticed that the longer a dog is in a family the owner and the dog begin to resemble one another? Or how a child that is adopted into a family will resemble the features of their parents and siblings (even if they are of different races)?
I’m always mesmerized by God’s gracious gifts.
When we are growing closer to Christ in our relationship with him, our heart, actions, and words begin to reflect Him as well. As our heart looks more like His, His desires will become our desires.
1 John 3:2 “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.”
God loves us as our Heavenly Father, and when we commit ourselves to Him, He Wants to give us the desires of our hearts.
“Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will act.” Psalm 37:5.
When I look back at my teenage and pre-married years, my dad showed that I was making him proud by giving me the vehicles I wanted at big milestones: from a jeep for my 16th, an Audi for college graduation and a Harley for taking my brother on a vacation while they were away. Did I need these things, absolutely NOT, and I’ve learned some other lessons from this, but for this purpose it shows me that God desires to do even more for us.
My own children have their desires as well, and when they are being obedient to me, kind to one another, and respectful to my rules, I long to give them more than their desires. But when they are acting like a fool and being completely disobedient, I want to take away everything I’ve ever given them. Thank the Lord that God gives grace and mercy.
The next time you begin to have a desire in your heart take a personal inventory, are your desires aligned with His desires? If YES, then pray and wait to see what He does.
