Day 74 – 365 Days through the Word

Day 74 – Like a loving Mother or Father to their son or daughter, there are consequences to everything we do.

Today’s reading is from 1 Samuel 27:1-29:11.

1 Samuel 28:17 “The Lord has done to you as he spoke by me, for the Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hand and given it to your neighbor, David.”

Now I have to pre-warn you, from Day 1, I have never thought my child can do no wrong. To be honest, I defer in the opposite direction, and my children know that I will side with every teacher and show them another side to the situation with a friend. This is because, like me, my children are sinners born into a sinful world, and as I continue in my sanctification, I’m going to help them in theirs as well. Whenever they do something wrong, I explain the wrong, look for the right consequence which is different in every situation, and make them apologize even if they think it’s unfair. (Let’s get this straight right now, life just isn’t always fair.) Once my child recognizes their wrong, whether they like it or not, I wipe off their tears, take them in my arms and remind them that I love them. I only do this because I want them to become a reflection of Christ to this world….loving, kind, respectful, and a good friend.

God does this exact same thing with us. He reprimands us for our wrong and wipes off our embarrassment and shame and says, “I love you, for you are a child of mine, and I want the world to know it.” Saul had this same experience with God, but couldn’t figure out why God would do this to him. And Samuel said, well if you had listened to the Lord this wouldn’t have happened. Be ready for the consequences of the decisions you make and know the Lord reprimands you because He loves you enough to have His Son die on the cross for your sins.
