Day 59 – 365 Days through the Word

Day 59 – Even when your circumstances take a turn, keep your eyes focused on the only right way.

Today’s reading: Joshua 22:1-Judges 2:23.

Joshua 24:15 “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Israel was used to having Moses lead them, and he was gone. So Joshua was raised up as their leader, but he too was at the end of his life on earth. There wasn’t another natural leader to take over Joshua’s position and the Israelites were inclined to worry about what was yet to come. Joshua urged them to not worry about who would lead them on earth because God would set judges before them.

The Israelites were encouraged and reminded to put their focus on the Word that was given to them through Moses in the wilderness.

There were many cultures around them trying to influence their beliefs but there was only one true God. Joshua wanted them to decide who they would follow and make that their final decision. So Joshua told them that as long he lived he and his family would serve the Lord.

We have these changing circumstances all around us. Always so many ways to turn, so many choices to make, but only one way that leads to life. It’s not always the easiest way, actually it’s probably never the easiest way, but it is the best way and the blessed way. As for me and my house, we choose to Serve the Lord!
