Day 22 – Wearing a cross is like wearing a wedding ring…the wedding ring doesn’t make you married and the cross doesn’t make you a Christian, but both remind you of the promise you made and the one by whom you made it you are not ashamed.
Today’s Reading: Exodus 26:1-28:43
Exodus 28:2, 12 “And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty. And you shall set the two stones on the shoulder pieces of the ephod, as stones of remembrance for the sons of Israel. And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord on his two shoulders for remembrance.”
Moses is stilling giving out the exact specifications and instructions for construction of the tabernacle and all of its furnishings. God goes on to tell Moses specifically that he has filled each skillful person with everything they need to be used for a specific purpose, one of which is making the special garments for Aaron and the other priests.
On Aaron’s garments there will be 2 stones on the shoulders and 12 stones on the breastpiece of judgement worn over the heart. All of these stones are to be a reminder of the sons of Israel and the promise God gave to them as well as the judgement He holds over them.
We too wear a reminder of the sin that was taken away, as the Almighty Judge did for us on the cross, and that is the cross we wear as well as the cross we bear. So when you wear your cross and you take on that reminder, remember others will also see you and know you by your cross. Wear it well and let it Glorify Him.
Dear Heavenly Father, I love the reminder of the cross and the gift you gave through it. But sometimes, in my humanity, I forget the gift, so I chose to keep it inked on me forever. Please let me be reminded every time I look down and see my wrist, remembering the work you did on the cross. And when I remember Let me reflect you. In Jesus Name, Amen.
