But I know who can.

“Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn it’s place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?” Job 38:11-13

Can you make the sun rise or the mountains move?

Job’s silent, his friends are done placing judgment, and the young man has ended his discord…..so God shows up. Just in time, or actually, right in His time. He always comes when we are being Still and everyone is done having their say.

God speaks out of the storm, addressing the questions of all those around, by asking His own questions.

Many around, including Job, have been trying to explain away the reasons, decisions, and understanding of only what God knows.

Yet God begins His questions with: were you at creation, did you decide how high the heavens were to be, how deep the waters were to go, or how wide the earth should expand? What about the morning and night, did you bring up the sun or help it set? Did you tell the water where to rain or the snow where to fall?

Essentially, God is saying, “Do you know what I know? Do you have the power and knowledge that I have?…….No, well then, stop putting words in my mouth!”

All these things created in Heaven and on Earth are only known and put in place by the understanding, wisdom, and thoughts of God.

We, humans, always try to figure out the “why” for ourselves and explain it away. If we can’t discover the answer we’re looking for we move onto our neighbors “whys” and try to guide them with what we “know”. When, in all actuality, we are finite and only understand what God allows us to understand. Whereas, He is infinite, all-knowing, creator, and doesn’t have to explain anything to us.

Honestly, there are many “whys” I’d like to one day have answered, but I’m comforted by Gods peace in knowing that one day may not be any day soon. There have been many “people” who have gotten a glimpse of my life and have had their own answer to some of my whys. And sadly, because of these people, there was a time I was so nervous to walk into a church. But God’s call was bigger than their judgement, and I realized that the only thoughts that mattered or could be trusted were God’s. Maybe, you’ve been there or you’re right there right now.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-9

I may not be able to make the sun rise or make the mountain move, but I know who can…my God. I will trust Him with my life and the lives of all those I encounter. He created you and me and everyone around us, and in His infinite wisdom, He created us in a specific way for a specific purpose with a path laid before us that was just for us. He knows what our days will look like, and He knows the questions we have. And really, that’s all that matters.

So, even though my “whys” are still there, I will not give up. I will trust God and keep running with all my “whys” in tow, with every mountain to climb, at every sunrise.
